Dive In!

I have started reading the Bible in the order suggested to complete it in a year — I’m behind already, of course! I thought the Psalm reading on the first day was a perfect way to begin: “God’s Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure. Otherwise how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!” (The Message, Psalm 19:11-12)

The Spark Bible given to our kids when they were 3 years old has been a favorite for bedtime stories in my house. Sometimes we read it beginning to end; other times the kids request their favorite stories, or we just start wherever the book opens. It has been a great resource for me as a parent, reminding my kids what happened to people in the Bible when they were in similar situations, asking them what Jesus said when they were deciding how to treat others, keeping God’s will in their decision-making.

What a wonderful opportunity for us this year to do the same in our adult lives! I encourage you, even if you’re already behind, to read the Bible with your Salem community (click here for the reading plan). You will find encouragement, challenge, answers, questions, stories that anger and inspire you. Dive into God’s amazing Word, and put it on the forefront of your thoughts this year — it will not disappoint!

In Christ’s love,
