The Smaller They Are

Salem’s kids are performing their summer musical in both services this Sunday, which means I’ve been singing, dancing, and acting with our youngest talent every morning this week. Believe it or not, as much as I love it, the music is not my favorite part of our summer musical camp! What I absolutely love is experiencing scripture through the eyes of a child.

Monday morning, we met for the first time and starting talking about David and Goliath. I told them they were the perfect ones to tell this story, because it’s about a kid who knew God would help him, even when the adults around him were afraid. Sure, Goliath is big and scary, but so were the lions and bears that David kept away from his sheep by using only his slingshot! It makes perfect sense to kids that David should be brave, since God has always been with him.

I invite you to let the little children lead you this Sunday. Listen for these words in my favorite song of The Bigger They Are: God’s where it all begins; open your heart, let Him in. If you’re unsure, He’ll show you the way. If it’s the will of God you’ve built your life upon, give Him your hand, open your heart, and listen.
