New Year's Evolution

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails”. William Arthur Ward

Each January, millions of Americans choose to make a new year’s resolution in hopes of adjusting their sails for positive personal change. The most common resolutions are losing weight, getting organized, quitting tobacco/alcohol, or starting an exercise regiment. Making progress takes hard work and a spirit of experimentation that usually pushes us outside of our comfort zone. It is in that discomfort that we experience fresh perspectives and new ideas around the things that matter the most.

Over the past six months, our Salem communications team has been evaluating our overall approach to communication. That includes both print and digital communication as well our ability to share our Salem brand. Our main focus is increasing the effectiveness of our communications offerings to meet the needs of both our Salem family and the greater community. As many of you know, we are also in the process of hiring a part time communications person to be hired this first quarter.

Starting this week we will begin to do some experiments with both our print and digital communications. Expect micro-experiments to start, with a greater change to follow as we move into the spring. With most change there is likely be some discomfort as it will look different from the way we have done it in the past. We are asking for two things from each of you in the midst of this change. First, please keep an open mind to the communication changes or new approaches you experience. Second, please share your feedback as this will be a continual evolution as our community changes and grows.

As we continue to evolve as a congregation, it is Christ who is at the center of all things and who calls us to find new ways to share his message of love with the greater community.
