Team Work Makes the Dream Work

For over ten years both Sheila Rehder and Ellen Sandelin, with the support of many leaders, have provided an amazing children’s ministry program for our little ones. As they moved on from their roles in children's ministry to pursue new opportunities at Salem, many leaders have stepped up to help our program grow and evolve.

Over the past six months an amazing group of children’s ministry leaders have been working tirelessly to remodel the Luther Hall basement and implement a new rotational model of programing for Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. The overall process started more than a year ago when stakeholders came together to discern the future of children’s ministry at Salem.

Our new curriculum comes from SparkHouse Publishing and is a rotation based program. Instead of age based classes we have theme based stations that kids will rotate through in their age groups. The stations include games, arts and crafts, videos, cooking, science, music, drama, technology, and movement. Each station integrates a weekly bible theme with an activity or experience that engages our kids in a very hands on approach. Each Sunday, the students will rotate through two stations and Wednesday evenings will include music and either crafts, cooking, or games.

If you haven't taken the time to tour the remodel in the basement of Luther Hall, I want to encourage you to do so! You will see a fresh coat of paint, new carpet, new signage, station themed rooms, and so much more. When our kids head down to Sunday morning or Wednesday evening programing, we want them to be excited about their surroundings. Our new station themed rooms look fresh and clean and are ready for our kids to grow in their relationships with each other and God!

Lorel Brown is our new children’s ministry coordinator and she has done a wonderful job preparing the curriculum and engaging our awesome adults to help lead the different stations. We still need many leaders to help lead a station for a three week unit in either the fall, winter, or spring. Please consider leading a station in a area that connects with your gifts or passions.

I want to thank all who have helped get our new program off the ground and we look forward to an awesome year of Sunday school starting this Sunday, September 17th at 9:15am!

Peace- John Holt
