God Is Always With You, And So Am I!

9 I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1: 9 (NRSV)

The VBS week has been an amazing experience for all involved. Our awesome adult leaders have been teaching, leading, playing music, serving food, and so much more. Our middle and senior high students have been leading the large group opening and closing, supporting group leaders, and helping run stations. The week goes so fast but the impact on each child is significant. This years daily themes were God made you, God is for you, God is always with you, and God will always love you.

As I listened to the large group opening on Wednesday, our student leaders shared that God is always with you no matter what is going on in your life. When you are down or hurting, God is there and will never leave you. The more I thought about this I wondered how we as God’s people play a part in having each others backs. I read verse 9 through 18 and God spoke to Joshua and gave him a command to continue to lead the Israelites to the promise land after Moses died. Their response to Joshua was “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses!”

I truly believe that God has our back and walks by our side in the most trying moments. I also believe God calls each of us to reach out and have our neighbors back. Although the thought of our creator always being their to pick us up and give us strength is an incredible blessing, the support of your community or church family is just as powerful. God created all of us to share the unconditional love given freely without strings. Maybe the shout out I am looking for is “God is always with you, and so am I!”
