You’re Not Alone

My cousin Nate is on his way from North Carolina to Alaska…driving his motorcycle. He stopped at our house tonight, and showed me all of his gadgets so that he can ride alone, but still feel safe and connected. He figured with the list of friends and family “following” him, if he gets in trouble surely someone will know a way he can get help, no matter where he needs it. Every evening he posts about his adventures so that we can all “travel” with him.

As I looked at music for this Sunday, it was easy to find songs that use the words “you’re not alone.” Isn’t that something we all want? Even those of us who like our alone time, to know that we’re still connected, that someone is looking out for us, isn’t that part of our nature? In John 14, Jesus is preparing to leave his disciples, and he promises that he will send the Holy Spirit to always be with them. Not to do the work for them, but to remind them that he has given them all they need, plus the promise that His Spirit will be there to guide and comfort them in their journey.

For most of my life, I’ve been able to follow my dreams. During some rocky years, I cross-stitched a small message to myself that read, “Lord, lead, and I will follow.” It was the first thing I saw when I woke up, and the last thing I looked at before sleep. It reminded me that just because things weren’t going according to my plans, didn’t mean I wasn’t heading in the right direction. I fully subscribed to the suggestion that I leave my worries to God, since He’d be up all night, anyway! It’s the peace that passes all understanding – I highly recommend it, especially for those times you feel alone.

“You’re world’s not falling apart, it’s falling into place. You’re not alone, stop holding on and just be held.”
