Dear Salem family,

We take worship pretty seriously at Salem. Our goal is always to bless you with the word and sacrament, and send you out inspired to shine Christ’s light into the world. We work hard to make the scriptures relevant to today, to engage you with music that is meaningful, and encourage the Spirit to move in our hearts.

Luckily, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. When I start in the wrong key we all laugh, and start again. When a microphone doesn’t work, we keep going and talk louder. When a baby loudly interrupts, we look back and encourage the parents with smiles. Most of our musicians are volunteers, and we love to see new faces, especially our youth enthusiastically leading us in worship. We have a congregation that encourages and supports new ideas, from singing Kyrie arranged by a popular band in the 80s, to stretching musicians across the sanctuary thumping out bluegrass!

This past Sunday we officially welcomed our new organist, Charles Hoeft, who has been blessing us with his music since late July. Last week 13 youth spread out on the floor of the sanctuary to plan a youth service (happening on 9/25) which will be filled with their amazing ideas to make worship fun and engaging. Our worship team is making plans for an additional service in 2017 that will continue to encourage Salem’s growth and vibrant ministries.

Next week we start our mid-week gathering and worship, now called Oasis. Choir will start rehearsing, confirmation kicks off, new adult classes are forming, and we will care for each other through fellowship, conversation and prayer.

The Spirit is moving at Salem!

In Christ’s love,

Heather Lewis

Director of Worship and Music
